Richard de Clare, Earl of Pembroke, is still reviled, unfairly I think. I like "strongbow" as a character from history. He contributed red hair to many in my family, including my oldest sister and grandfather.
Also in my family there are many with red hair and blue eyes. Usually they are strong characters.
Richard de Clare, Earl of Pembroke was a Norman. In that era the Normans founded a Kingdom in Southern Italy and Sicily. My relatives are all Sicilians, but about a third of them are fair-haired or reddish, with blue or green eyes. My only sister was red haired when she was born, but within six months she became brown haired. I am not reddish or blond, but if I grow my beard, well it is a mixed black and red beard (Good for carnival or halloween, but you know I don't celebrate them at all)
Anyway, my relatives with red hair are all rather hot-tempered. Also my sister, because she is red inside.
Can you tell us more about the scene in this painting? Why a marriage with war and death?

Hmm. I've seen worse wedding receptions. It's what happens when you have an open bar.
