From Harry
MAYAN BUCKET LIST
December 21, 2012. I hope no one is getting too nervous,
but the end of the world is at hand. Of course that depends on who and what you
believe. New Age mystics have been speculating since 1975 that there would be a
global "transformation of consciousness" due to a galactic alignment.
“Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the
world or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios suggested for the end of the world
include the arrival of the next solar maximum, an interaction between Earth and
the black hole at the center of the galaxy, or Earth's collision with a planet
called "Nibiru".” (See 2012 phenomenon from Wikipedia”)
As for me, I am looking forward to a well-deserved winter
break from school, starting ironically on the 21st, and celebrating Christmas and New
Year’s with family and friends.
But what if we were on the verge of the Apocalypse? Ya’
never know. What would you do? What would your bucket list be? Here’s some
things I’d like to do before the crack of doom:
- Make a successful parachute jump.
- Get a short story published (not enough time to write that novel).
- Spend a week on a movie set taking it all in.
- See Mount Rushmore and Devil’s Tower.
- And while I am headed in that direction, meet and kiss a pixie.
That’s my bucket list. What is yours? I’ll leave you with
a comment from one of my students today when I brought up the topic of the world
ending. He said, “Well at least there won’t be anymore poverty.” Don’t you just
love silver linings?

Ok Harry, I like this joke.
I'll post my bucket list, I think tomorrow.
I am not afraid of Apocalypse. I long for a New World with no death, sickness, violence, poverty, etc., yes the paradise, the Kingdom of God, so if it comes between a few months, I am happy.
But ... if something goes wrong, this my bucket list:
1) Persuade Harry that is not the case to make a parachute jump.
2) Say to Rachael that my ancestors were Giuseppe Garibaldi, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante, and Julius Caesar.
3) Play a game with the Italian rugby team and defeat the All Blacks.
4) Cooking for the friends of this blog and their families some italian dishes
5) Carry out my secret desire
I'm in no hurry to see the Apocalypse. After all if you see one apocalypse, you've seen them all.
I like what Jesus said in Luke17:20-21. "The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation; neither shall they say, Lo here or, lo there! for behold, the Kingdom of God is within you."
Today is Thanksgiving day here in the USA. I know that other countries and cultures celebrate at other times and other ways, but I am grateful for my family and for all my friends, near and far. A new world would be nice, but if we can work together to end "sickness, violence, poverty" in this old world, that would be a worthy goal of all men. Bless us all.
I agree with you Harry.
We "can and MUST work together to end sickness, violence and poverty" (James 4:17, 1 John 3:17,18). But human governments can't solve such problems, it's impossible, history teaches us (Geremy 10:23, Proverbs 16:25)
Only God can remove these things definitely. (Daniel 2:44, Psalm 37:11,29)
Can a man raise another man? God can (John 5:28,29, Revelation 21:3,4)
I don't know how long I write in this blog, how long I can live, how long I see the sky and the sea, how long hear the voices of my family, how long talk with my friends near and far. Life is strange, unforeseeable and capricious.
Every day can be my own Apocalypse.
Don't misunderstand my words, I am only supposing the eventuality of every man, not my condition.
Nevertheless, I have my bucket list and I have a place for the friends of this blog and their families. In some ways I am very fond of you all.
Am I visionary or a romantic? Yes I am. I am proud to be a visionary and a romantic.
This is not a religious blog, now I stop myself with boring religious discussions.
Your friend
Roberto
Theologically I have be on Roberto’s side – although I would add the rider found in Matthew 24 v.36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows” (English Standard Version)
But prompted by Harry’s post I tried to read and understand the Wikipedia article on the Mayan calendar.
My head hurts!
My original post was meant to be humorous. I guess it is a hard sell to make the end of the world funny.
I actually thought my "If you've seen one apocalypse, you've seen the all" line was hilarious.
Let us all agree though that we are men of good will and that pixies are precious creatures.
I thought the seen one seen them all line was funny.
